IMPLEMENTING SMARTFORMS
Kaiser Permanente: Health Connect Essentials
Kaiser Permanente implemented peer-led training to solve for electronic health record (EHR) challenges.
Kaiser Permanente established a peer-to-peer EHR educational program to maximize the effectiveness of physicians’ time and improve efficiencies across the organization.
- Used peer-led best practice sharing to overcome providers’ greatest challenge (EHRs)
- Implemented a 3-day training during which providers had no patient responsibilities
- Providers received up to 26 hours of continuing medical education (CME)
- ~4000 providers completed training
- 96% would recommend to peers
- ~80% felt it would save 4–5 minutes an hour, roughly 40 minutes a day
- Benefits outweighed the costs by improving provider efficiency, skills, provider well-being, and care delivery
